The GlasERLEBNISwelt in the Harz Mountains
The HARZKRISTALL glass manufactory in Derenburg combines experience, adventure, relaxation, fun and culinary enjoyment in one place. In one of the last active glassworks in Germany, we offer exciting insights into manual glass production. Experience glass with all your senses on our "Manufaktour" adventure tour.
During your visit, you will learn all about the creation and processing of glass as a raw material and accompany our glassmakers and glassblowers up close in the production of hand-blown glass products. Various creative programmes offer the unique opportunity to work with glass yourself.
As part of the Gerhard Bürger Foundation, we are thus preserving the traditional craft of glassmaking and our production site in Derenburg.
Manual glass production is part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
A unique view of the Brocken and puzzle fun for kids
Treat yourself to some time out for the soul. Take a walk through the hut garden and enjoy a scoop of ice cream with a view of the Brocken and forget the stresses of everyday life. In addition to the Brocken and Wernigerode Castle, you can enjoy a unique view of the Harz foreland.
Our own wine of the "SOLARIS" grape variety also grows in the midst of a huge splendour of flowers. Born Winery bottled by the Born winery on the Süßer See.
In our hut garden there are many quiet and green places to sit and lie down as well as the stamp box of the Harz hiking pin. Stop by on your next hike and get your stamp!
There's something new for all kids in our hut garden: the puzzle pass for children. At each table in the garden there is a magic crystal ball that reveals a secret letter. If all the letters are combined correctly, a solution word is revealed, which earns the children a small gift at the information desk. The puzzle pass is available at the information desk.

Fascination for 6,000 years
Glass is one of the oldest raw materials created by man. Glass was already being produced in Egypt almost 6,000 years ago. Over 2,000 years ago, the glassmaker's pipe was invented, which revolutionised glass production. This tool is still used today. The history of our manufactory begins in 1946 with the founding of the Wernigerode Hollow Glass Refining Co-operative as a so-called resettlers' co-operative. This became the VEB Glaswerk Harzkristall Derenburg in 1949.
